The Department of Economics is an age old, pioneering and distinguished department of H. H. The Rajah’s College (Autonomous). The U.G. course was started in 1967 and P.G. course in 1990. The research courses M.Phil and Ph.D were started in 2011. Currently, the intake of students is 60 for U.G course and 35 for P.G course. The academic courses are constantly updated, and intended to provide the tools necessary to understand the working of real world economics in terms of both theory and policy.
The department spearheads online examination for both U.G and P.G final year students, which enable them to face online exams elsewhere without any hitch. In addition to this, the department organizes Endowment Lecturers, Seminars, Conferences, etc., regularly. Students blossomed from this department had well spread all over the country and are occupying pivotal position. A galaxy of experienced staff members are involved in academic and research activities. The Department is equipped with a computer. The department library is equipped with 2639 books for reference.
